The Skin Pantry
The Skin Pantry Review.
After suffering from recurrent skin rashes and hormonal disruptions for the last few years, I finally decided six months ago to delve a little deeper into my life and get a hang of what I was missing out on or what I was not doing right. The insights came pouring in all suggestive of a lifestyle that involves healthy food, physical activity, stress management (I am talking about managing stress as it’s impossible to be stress free completely today) and practising humility and kindness. However, one of the most common underlying reasons that came to me as a revelation was that I never really paid much attention to the amount of toxins the skin had been soaking up for years. To be honest , I had come across a few articles a couple of years ago that talked about toxins in beauty and skin products but it was six months ago that I realised the the skin absorbs a major amount of these toxins . It was time for me to reacquaint myself with the topics all over again and be more aware of why my skin care rituals needed to be clear of the harsh chemicals. After months of research and trying different products, I am delighted to have introduced The Skin Pantry into my skin care regime.
The Skin Pantry is a range of handcrafted skincare products with certified organic, natural and pure ingredients but here is why it makes it to my list of favourites and why I would recommend it –
- All the creams are pure and natural with organic ingredients.
- No chemical preservatives or emulsifiers are used. The natural ones used are certified by Ecocert and organic, 100% plant and vegetable based giving it a very small shelf life about two to three months.
- No nasties are used here ; no chemicals or preservatives, no synthetic stabilisers and no parabens. The belief is – you shouldn’t put on your skin what you wouldn’t put into your mouth!
- Products are handmade from scratch, using the finest organic butter bases drizzled with organic virgin cold pressed oils, spiced and sprinkled with nature’s heavenly fragrances and served up in recyclable little jars.
Why The Skin Pantry ?
Coupled with the above mentioned points, my faith in The Skin Pantry also stems from fact that the founder Colette Austin has gone on extensive research herself to create a line that is clean and in doing so she has poured her heart and soul into the designing of each product. Colette was confronted with an uphill task of sourcing all foods and beverages organic when she decided to turn paleo. She started by cleaning out all her creams and perfumes and replacing them with more organic and natural goodies. The skin being the body’s largest organ soaks up everything we pile onto it whether pollutants, chemicals, preservatives and parabens and all of them eventually find their way in to our system as endocrine disrupters. It is because of this reason that Colette developed a skin care range that is based on the prime belief that you shouldn’t put on your skin what you wouldn’t put in your mouth. When on her hunt to find other products that reiterated the same belief she was utterly disappointed as there was not much to choose from. Either the ‘organic’ labeling appeared dodgy and misleading or the sensorial weren’t in place. In despair and determined to not compromise, Colette began making her own range of moisturisers and creams. However, the biggest impediment was the sourcing of truly organic ingredients from suppliers to come up with her own concoction for skin care products. From countless hours of research to expeditions around the globe, Colette finally managed to source from a bunch of reputed organic suppliers which are all USDA certified. And now she has been whipping up a storm at home with Grade A Organic Raw Unrefined Shea Butter from Ghana, Organic Cocoa Butter, Mango Butter and Organic Lavender, Orange, Lemon and Rose butters, Organic Vanilla bourbon from Tahiti & Madagascar, Organic cold pressed Coconut, Almond, Apricot, Hazelnut, Pomegranate and Jojoba oils. Now, her skin is all the more glowy and shiny and she has also decided to share the secret with all of us so we get a chance to experience the same too.
Let me now give you a detailed introduction to some of the very best products from The Skin Pantry :

French Pink Clay
The French Pink Clay is a face mask suitable for both sensitive & mature skin. Consisting of a mixture of red and white clay, French pink clay is considered to be the mildest of all clays. This mask is abundant in minerals and effectively purifies the skin, tighten pores, detoxifies and heals the skin with ease by removing dead cells and repairing connective tissues. It is ideal for healing dry drought and sun damaged skin. My experience with the French clay has been amazing, I love the fact that it already comes in a paste or mousse form that is soft enough to either apply with the spatula provided or with just bare fingers. The end result of using this simple yet effective mask is a radiant refreshed skin with natural rosy tinge. It is to be kept in mind and made sure that the clay does not come in contact with any metal as it will be stripped of all its healing properties. The jar comes with a top up solution which is to be mixed with the clay whenever it dries up . The ingredients used for the detoxification are French Pink Clay, pure aloevera gel and organic chamomile essential oil.
