Purpose Jewelry – iSanctuary
Hand made items always tend to carry the energy of love and warmth as it comes with personal feelings attached to it, as if every little piece has been woven with love and care. I came across few beautiful handmade jewellery pieces by Purpose Jewelry (Purpose Jewelry – iSanctuary ) while practicing my Yoga sessions at a yoga studio. The tags of these items caught my attention as it mentioned that the items were handcrafted by the survivors of human trafficking. What I really appreciated and loved was the fact that these wonderful women are called survivors and not victims.
The brown stone bracelet on the left is one of my most favourite pieces as it can be worn daily whether you are travelling or you are out for a casual meeting . Each stone is held to another through metal chains making it sturdy enough to tackle the wearing . It can be paired best with a pair of jeans and top or a long patterned maxi dress.
Purpose Jewelry is an initiative by International Sanctuary that empowers survivors through employment and financial stability. Launched in September 2014, the brand helps the victims transform themselves from victims to survivors. They are able to join healthy workplace communities that are safe and loving and help them overcome their abusive and difficult past. Purchasing with Purpose empowers these young women as they play a critical role in every step of the process, from handcrafting the jewelry to shipping your purchase. 100% of the proceeds from Purpose jewelry benefit the survivors through iSanctuary. The purchases made provide employment, job training, and the financial stability to the survivors who are in need to provide for themselves and their families. Every young woman who graduates from the program at iSanctuary is equipped with the skills and knowledge that she needs to enter the job market with confidence.
The metal bracelet in the top image can be used for a date or a dinner look. Adding this to a black long maxi dress would add a hint of shine to the look . The bracelet can also be worn with a saree as it has intricately designed pattern and the mechanism of the bracelet resembles that of a kada.
Metals and stone jewellery in intricate designs are available online as well as in small stores . Each tag contains the name of the jewellery maker on it which is something I am personally love. ” The caged bird sings
With a fearful trill
Of things unknown
But longed for still
And his tune is heard
On a distant hill
For the caged bird
sings of freedom. “
– Maya Angelou
The bohemian and hippie look has been trending for a while and the feather and chain earrings on the right is something that captures the essence of the bohemian style. You can wear this pair of earring with a long maxi dresses and hair either braided or into a messy bun.
“Trafficking in persons,” “human trafficking,” and “modern slavery” have been used as umbrella terms for the act of recruiting, harboring, transporting, providing, or obtaining a person for compelled labor or commercial sex acts through the use of force, fraud, or coercion. Around 27 million people are enslaved today , 80 % of which are women and more than half of those enslaved are children . India has more people enslaved than any other country in the world. Let us do whatever little we can do to make the lives of the broken better , so they can get up and thrive with life and passion. From India itself we have a leading example – Mr Kailash Satyarthi who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 along with child activist Malala Yousafzai, ” for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people for the right of all children to education. ” For more than four decades Mr Satyarthi has worked relentlessly for children’s rights and has helped to free children trapped in bonded labor, assisted them with vocational training and education, and challenged public discourse in India on child labor and child trafficking.
